New Year’s Eve Celebrations
Prague may be one of the world’s most beautiful cities with so much to offer,
from historic castles to magnificent museums, however, it seems that most people travel to Prague to take part in
the parties and nightlife that is renowned world wide. The fact that Prague is a great place to go out in at night every single day of the year makes it one of
the best places to be on New Year’s
Eve with the city literally exploding.
The Old Town Square party is the most popular and by far the craziest New Year’s Eve destination in Prague. With the beautiful backdrop of the baroque architecture and venders selling mulled wine on every corner of the square, the Old Town Square is the perfect place to spend a traditional New Year’s Eve. The crowd is generally very young throughout most of the evening, but at midnight when the fireworks display starts, the streets fill with people of every age. The people of Prague love fireworks, and literally go crazy when they start going off. If watching the fireworks from the very crazy, very crowded Old Town Square is not your idea of a fun New Year’s Eve or your simply afraid for your safety, climb the hill to the Prague Castle, wander over to the Charles Bridge, or watch them from any of the waterfront restaurants. The best views can be seen from the many party cruises that set sail on New Year’s Eve. The best way to judge a vantage point is to check out the view of the castle. If you have a good view of the castle, than you will definitely have a good view of the fireworks display.
One of the best reasons to spend New Year’s Eve in Prague is money. Prague is extremely inexpensive, especially when it comes to food and drink. In addition to things being generally inexpensive in Prague, the official currency is the Czech Koruna, which is worth less than half of one U.S. dollar. This means that people traveling to the Czech Republic, who are paying with the U.S. dollar, are going to get everything for virtually half price and these items are already priced inexpensively.
